You can dispute the erroneous entries on your credit report for free as per the
Fair Credit Reporting Act. However, you need to apply for a credit report to
review it. After locating the erroneous entries, you’re required to send a dispute
letter to the creditors. But this is a time consuming process.

So you can take credit repair help from professionals to guide you reestablishing your credit.
Many debt stricken consumers rely on credit repair agency to repair their credit
report. Therefore, the financial market is crammed with credit repair firms after
the recent economic meltdown. But you are required to find an authentic debt
repair company, as there is a mushrooming growth of the scam companies.
These fraud companies are targeting the consumers to extract money from them
and further complicate their financial situation.

Here are a few tips to find a legitimate credit repair firm:

1. You can ask for referrals from your friends or relatives regarding different
credit repair firms. If these people faced similar problem in the past, then
they must be aware of some authentic credit repair firm. Otherwise you
can simply use the search engine to find legitimate credit repair firms.

2. Make sure that you verify regarding the company before hiring the
services. You can verify with the Better Business Bureau to check whether
any complaint has been lodged against the company. You can check
with the State’s Attorney General’s Office to verify the authenticity of the
company.

3. Make sure that you verify the fee payment policy of the credit repair firm.
According to the Credit Repair Organizations Act, you are not liable to pay
to the company until it shows you the result of the services that it claimed.
Try to avoid associating with companies charging upfront fee as it has
been prohibited by the Federal Trade commission.

credit repair plan

4. You can find out from the company how they conduct the process of
repairing the credit. If the company in order to repair the credit dispute all
negative information inclusive of the accurate and inaccurate, then avoid
these types of firm. Remember, that negative but accurate information

like bankruptcies, bad loans, and lawsuits will remain on your credit report
for a specific period. Bankruptcy will blemish your credit report for 7 to 10
years. The lawsuits stay will show on your credit report for 7 years or until
the expiry of the statute of limitations.

5. Try to check the contact form provided by the company. The form should
include the company name and address, complete details on the services
provided, service cost charged by the company as well as the payment
policy. The company should provide a written document stating the
duration required to achieve the target and other service claimed by the
company. The company has to start the services after completion of the
grace period of three days once the contract is signed. If you wish to
terminate the contract during this grace period, then you are not liable to
pay fee.

Therefore, these are the most effective ways to find a legitimate credit repair
company.

Store Credit Cards

I know that when you are looking for ways to start your credit score off you are tempted to apply for one of the store credit cards. There are good reasons to get a store credit card

They give you a discount

They are relatively easy to get

It is nice to be able to buy things at your favorite store whenever you want

But what about the huge interest rate they charge. I just watched a great video explaining this whole process in 60 seconds

http://www.thestreet.com/story/11381248/1/avoid-applying-for-store-credit-cards.html

The one thing they do not mention is the will power problem. Even if you really do intend to just get the discount and then never use the card again it is so easy to just drop into the store next month and use the card again “just this once” . If you know you do not have the will power to never use the card you must stay away from them at all costs.

Store credit cards are great as long as you do not use them beyond what you can afford to pay off straight away. Most stores will send out discounts and special invites to their card owners. There is no reason why you can not use these discounts, along with your card for more discounts usually, and then just pay it off as soon as the bill comes in or before if you feel the need.

Credit is not something to be messed with, when you ask about how to get credit you must be sure that you can pay the money you borrow back.

I just read about a guy called Jeff Rose who has a credit score of 780, which in itself is pretty darned good , but wants to get over 800. The difference to his finances when he goes from 780 to 800 will not be much at all, if anything, he won’t get any cheaper loans or be given a gold watch by his credit card company.

It seems to be that he may be pushing this for personal reasons, or maybe he is just looking to get some press coverage for his company. One thing in the report that amazed me was the statement that 36 million Americans have a credit score of 800+. Everytime I watch the news it is all doom and gloom and everyone is broke. Well clearly some people have still got money!

If you are a Alabama fan then you may want to call the bank. No they are not looking for a loan , but the very popular site Bamastuff.com has had it’s security breached. The data that was taken has been used , well some of it anyway. So some people have had to start dealing with the banks and the pain that is trying to get money back from credit card companies.

You can read more about this specific problem at the link here on al.com http://blog.al.com/breaking/2012/01/tide_fans_ordering_from_bamast.html

Some of the things they tell you on there are kind of obvious:-

Change passwords – You should not be using the same password for different places

Check your statements – You do that anyway don’t you?

But I know how easy it is to get complacent with your cards. So once a year cut em up and ask for new ones. Make sure you do it at a time when you are not going on holiday though!

Good luck to the bama fans who have had their credit card data compromised, I hope no one loses their identity!

In news today, Suze Orman partners with Transunion to trace whether people using her prepaid card can develop a credit score.

Her prepaid card is not the first of it’s kind, however it is the first one to share the data on its users spending habits with a credit bureau. This makes it sound like your score will increase doesn’t it? Wrong!

It is a pilot program and the paperwork says that all information will remain anonymous and will not appear in any Transunion credit reports. To my understanding this means they are going to collect a whole load of data (possibly 2 years worth) before they do anything. The initial decision will be based on everyone’s information, so the chances of you eventually improving your credit score are pretty slim in my mind.

This is not the first time this kind of thing has been attempted, but having Suze Orman’s name attached is a huge deal. Just to say that myself and my wife loved her show when we watched it, some good sense advice that no doubt people will ignore!

My opinion (for what it is worth) is that if you need to use prepaid cards you probably have more issues than can be fixed by this process. You probably need to go old school, try all you can to earn more money, pay of your debt and get a small line of credit from just about anywhere, PAY THE DEBT ON TIME, and move forward from there.

Read more about Suze Orman and TransUnion - http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-01-23/business/bs-bz-ambrose-orman-20120123_1_credit-scores-president-of-consumer-education-credit-history

Easy To Get Credit

When people ask about easy to get credit, the one thing they always seem to miss out how much they want to borrow. Trying to borrow $500 is different than borrowing $50,ooo. The irony is that in many situations you will pay more interest (as a %) on $500 than you would on fifty thousand dollars. It is wrong but it is the reality we live in.

The more credit you have (as long as you are paying it back on time) the easier it is to get credit. A friend of mine recently cleared all his debt, around 50k worth , when his mum sold her house and gave him the money. Anyone would think that removing the debt would ensure him of any loans he wanted to have in the future. His income hadn’t changed and he now had no debt.

The reality was that when he tried to borrow some money, 10k , the banks refused him. They said that he did not have enough surplus income, just 3 years ago he had been considered a good enough risk to borrow 50k but now he could not even borrow 10k.

So when you go looking for easy to get credit cards , you need to start looking in your own wallet. Do you already have credit? Are you paying it off? Do you actually have any money left over which you would use to pay the new loan off with?

In the present economic climate it is easy to blame the banks and Wall street companies for everything. However the reality is that they should never have loaned many of us money when they did and giving out loans to people who will not be able to pay them back makes no sense. You need to be honest with yourself, do you want the $1k loan for something useful that you can afford or do you want it for something just because you don’t want to take on some over time and save the money up?

Bankruptcy is considered one of the few viable options for financially crippled consumers. The problem with this is that the stigma of bankruptcy remains on everyone’s credit report for 7 to 10 years. The main effect of bankruptcy is that it lowers your credit score dramatically. Your potential lender will consider you high risk borrower and you will almost certainly find it difficult to get loans in the future.

If you are in a similar situation then consider taking credit repair help to reestablish your credit. Bankruptcy will extinguish your debts then you can start repairing your credit score.

1. If the stigma of bankruptcy appears on your credit report it will be difficult to get a loan in the future. In this situation, you should try to get a job so that the creditor is
convinced that you can pay back the owed amount on time. If you have a stable income then the chances are high that you will get loan easily. You can improve the credit score if you start paying off your new loan on time.

2. You should avoid taking out new loan once you file bankruptcy. But it is crucial that you need to reestablish your credit score by exercising financial discipline. You can apply for a secured credit card to rebuild you credit score. You are required to deposit stipulated amount while applying for the card. Your credit limit will be determined on the basis of this amount. When you pay off the bills on time it will help you improve the credit score immediately after bankruptcy.

3. Avoid default on your payment otherwise it might be difficult to repair your credit report. When you make timely payments then it will be notified on you credit report and it help you reestablish credit score with course of time.

4. Make sure that you avoid applying for credit than required. Every time you apply for credit the creditors will review your credit report. These frequent notifications of this enquiry on your credit report might lower your credit score.

5. Make sure that you lower your credit utilization level. Try to keep your outstanding balance low on your credit card statements otherwise it might be difficult to reestablish your credit report. Your credit score will drop if you have insurmountable amount of outstanding balance.

6. Make sure that you apply for your annual credit report and check it properly to locate any discrepancies. You can approach the credit bureau to remove the erroneous entries. Once you remove the wrong entries then t will help to reestablish your credit score. You should check the accounts that have been discharged in bankruptcy whether it has been listed as zero balance in the credit report. This will help to reestablish the credit score.

Borrow Money When You Do Not Need To

I know this may sound crazy but the best time to borrow money is when you do not really need it. If you are in desperate need of the money banks can get scared off, you may be unemployed or on short time and those things will go against you when you fill out your loan application. An example of this is if you are buying a car. If the car is $10k and you have managed to save it all up (well done) you may think buying the car for cash is the best idea. No more making payments, paying interest and all you have to do is make sure you have the cash to keep the car running.

Actually it makes sense to borrow the money to buy it, maybe put 25% down or even a full 50% and borrow the rest. By financing a good part of the purchase you can keep your cash in the bank earning some interest, you will have it available for emergencies and as long as you never miss a payment you will be helping improve your credit score. Since you are putting such a large amount down as a deposit and you probably have a very good credit score (as most regular savers do) you should be able to get a car loan at a very preferential rate. So you win in every way possible, you still have a good nest egg, you get a new car, your credit score will improve which will help you when you have to take out a mortgage.

I was recently talking to my 19 year old stepson about his finances and he said that while he knew he should catch up on his credit card payments his credit score was ruined now and he didn’t think it really mattered anyway. He is in a summer job that pays him in cash weekly. When he finishes there he will probably move in with a relative and just carry on doing small jobs. That seems great for a teenager, as long as he has money in his pocket he doesnt care.

Bad Credit Affects Your Life
If you think that it is not serious if you miss a payment or three while you are a teenager and someone else (your parents usually) will bail you out, you are mistaken. Your credit score follows you throughout your life and when you need credit the most you will be in serious trouble.

What are the biggest purchases you will ever make?
-College
-Car
-Home

All these things can be affected by a bad credit score, you could well be refused loans or charged a much higher rate for borrowing if you have a bad credit history. The car loan that you thought would cost you $200 a month could well end up costing you $300 a month just because you didn’t make regular payments on your credit cards when you were 19 or 20.

After College
You manage to get into college and spend the next three or four years with your head in the books working hard. You graduate and now you are ready to get out there into the big world, but once again your earlier credit card disaster comes back to bite you.

-Jobs
-Apartment rental

Both of these will run a credit check on you and if they find your credit score is bad they will either turn you down (it doesnt matter how perfect you think you are for the job) or they will charge you a premium for renting their apartment. So you can see how credit and your credit score really does matter, not just today but for the rest of your life. Your credit score can help or hurt you.

What Can I Do
If you realize your credit score is less than stellar you can do things to improve it. The first thing you should do is go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com and get a free credit report. This site is mandated by the government and you cna get a credit report from each of the credit bureaus once a year. Look at your credit report and see what it says, if there are outstanding payments, contact the company and pay the owed money. Make notes of who you speak to and what they say so you can prove you have paid the debt. Ask the company to confirm that they will notify the credit bureaus that you have paid them.

Getting your report fixed up so it is accurate will take time but it really is worth it as you will save money on just about every financial transaction you do throughout your life.

Instead of wondering how to get credit everyone should be learning how to nurture their credit and make their credit score work for them.

No one masters driving in a day, you have to learn to drive by reading and then doing. You can do something similar with your credit, building up a good credit score takes time but it is worth it as with careful control your credit score will save you money for years to come

Bank Accounts
Have at most two accounts and put money into them regularly (even small amounts are ok as long as you do them regularly), have one of them as your savings account and have deposits made automatically from your primary account into your savings account. As well as helping you build a nest egg for future purchases it shows that you want to save money and are used to regular commitments and when you apply for a credit card the bank will see this as a sign of financial maturity.

Take Small Steps

Get A Phone
As soon as you hit 18 you should get your own phone, even if you have to put down a deposit for it (carriers ask for this as you do not have any credit history). Do not go crazy and get one that is more than you can realistically afford or else you will be creating problems for yourself. What you are looking for is a monthly bill in your name, something to show you are in charge of your own finances.

Avoid Store Cards
If you like to shop at the same stores all the time it may be tempting to get a store card, especially when they offer you ten percent off your first purchase. Do not get a store credit card, just because it is easy to get the card it doesnt mean that it is good for your credit score. Many people consider store cards to be junk credit, they can be hard to get rid of and once you have them you will be bombarded with offers. The only time to get a store card is when you are absolutely sure that you will pay if off straight away and then leave it at home (one person i know stores their credit cards in a block of ice in the freezer).

An example of a good use of a store card was when my wife bought a new suite costing over a thousand dollars and saved 15% by opening a store card. She opened it, then paid it off in the store straight away, the ten minutes of extra work saved us one hundred and fifty dollars. Signing up for a store credit card to save 2 dollars makes no sense, but saving hundred dollars plus sweetens the deal somewhat.

Credit Can Be Ruined Quickly
Once you hit eighteen (and often before) you will find that you get bombarded with offers for credit cards. It may seem like fun to apply to all of them and get half a dozen credit cards of your very own. What harm can it do if you never use all of them? Well the answer is a lot of damage can be done by lots of credit applications going in all at once. You could ruin your credit score in one weekend of what you think is innocent fun, once damaged it will take years for you to regain a good credit rating.

Credit Is A Serious Matter
Because it is not something you can see and you do not get letters from the government about it people tend to ignore their credit score. This is a huge mistake as your credit score affects more of your adult life than you would ever expect so you should take care of it. What kind of things are affected by your credit score

car insurance

home insurance

mortgage rate

personal loan rate

buying a car on credit

credit card rate

apartment rental prices

You can see how important it is to not only learn how to get credit but how to manage credit and treat it with respect. Start small and nurture it, think twice before putting anything onto a credit card that you are not absolutely certain you can pay off when the bill comes in.
